Companionship

light and word

I was thinking of this poem not too long ago…another of my favorites and wondered where this little gem might be hiding out. Having moved extensively over years past I just wasn’t sure where I may have stored it. But, I knew that it said something simply and beautifully….something I wanted to say.

It wasn’t long after I had those thoughts….while rummaging through some stuff…looking for something else that I came upon it. Well, of course the Universe took care that I would find it so that I can share it with all the beautiful, receptive souls that find their way here.

Companionship

When with a brother,
And we are all brothers

Talk not always of things serious and requisite
But respond to the spirit of him with whom you speak,

And be he light and carefree, be you likewise.
But be receptive to his inner nature

And partake of his wisdom and love.
Should you sense a yearning

Give him a glimpse of the flower of your dreams.
But if he responds not to its beauty and fragrance

Go blissfully on your way. However,
Should he be struck with the allure of the blossom

Show him freely  all the wonderful flowers of your garden.
And speak with him of the invisible Divinity which

Encompasses and interpenetrates us all,
And let him feel the love you bear him

As a brother and a precious child of God,
On his lonesome journey to self-knowledge and freedom.

Lilburn S. Barksdale

I remember after my  awakening over 30 years ago that I wanted everyone to know what I knew…I was so excited about it. My intentions were honorable…but I soon learned that everyone was on a different level of understanding and that every level was as important as the next.

I was soon shown that we must never proselyte. When someone is ready to hear what we have to share, they will be brought into our world and we will know. If we pay attention  and connect with our  higher selves the right words will come.

Truth requires no push, no pull and no force…ever. It will come naturally in conversation…when the soul is receptive to receive it….at whatever level it needs it.

Keep your eyes and ears open and aware for those that may be brought your way to share your nuggets of gold.  Furthermore, be open to anyone that may be brought yourway….to share their nuggets of gold.

But, never proselyte!

Be receptive to others inner yearnings and remain open to receive and learn….

Everything is divine and everything is made of God material…honor all of it.

I wonder…if others were not in the exact position they are in, at the exact level of understanding they  presently have….would you be where you are? Doesn’t the puzzle always fit perfectly? For it to be whole each piece must play their role….every role is equal in importance.

Everything really is perfect….if we have “eyes to see….”

Remember, Truth and Peace go hand in hand….always! You can’t have one without the other.

  1. Lovely Kathy,

A beautiful poem that touched my heart, so glad you found it. The lesson of humility, patience, understanding, respect, what wonder they hold for us. We are ushered into sacred ground where we see through the eyes of God. We understand that all is as it should be and all we need to do is mirror light, “…either be the light or the mirror that reflects it.”
Such gentleness and grace, thanks for the reminder, I will take it with me in prayer and meditation, asking to be it’s vessel.
    Eternal blessings sister!

    • Hi Suzen…
how nice it is to see you freely on the site again! It wasn’t the same without you…;)
You know where that poem came from…right? The Barksdale Foundation. I’ve loved it since the moment I read it!
      Blessings back…always, Kathy

  2. Hi Kathy,

When I first began my spiritual journey, I was like you. I was so thrilled at what I had learned, I wanted to share it with everyone. Eventually, I realized that not everyone was ready to hear my thoughts. Took some time but then I learned that what was more important was how I did my journey.

So I focused more on doing my part and ironically, people started to ask me about my journey and I would share my thoughts. Each person has to go at a pace that works best for them. We are all works in progress and eventually, we all will know the same things. Each soul just has to do what is best for their level at that particular time.

    • Nadia…that’s a perfect point that I failed to mention. We need to quit talking about “it” and be “it”…in other words, others will follow by example. As Ghandi most profoundly said:

“We must be the change that we wish to see in the world.”
      Leading by example….;)
      Thanks for coming by Nadia…;)

  3. Hi Kathy – I had much the same experience as you. I wanted to let people know about physical immortality, but of course all I got was resistance, as though the concept was immoral! I simply stopped mentioning it to anyone, except occasionally when the other person really seemed to want to “go there” – then I’d somehow find just the right words. I remember reading the ideas in the poem in the books I am keen on – I don’t remember exactly where – and have found them inspiring over the years. Cheers Kathy!

    • Hi Robin,
I have to chuckle because it seems that most of us who have had this “stirring of the soul,” this explosion of “growth”…it is so obvious to us because of the euphoric feeling that we experienced when we opened to a place of “knowing.” But, as we all learned, trying to force this on others was like talking to a brick wall!
Nice to see you here Robin…always!

  4. Kathy — I am pleased to visit your site. I went to Robin’s site and it was the first time I had heard about physical immortality. I obviously have a lot to learn. I will explore your site for more information because I like to learn new things and hear about what people have discovered. I figure there’s always somebody who can teach me something new and it’s up to me to keep an open mind.

BTY I also loved the poem. It is beautiful and speaks to how each of us is on a journey…sometimes we share the path with others and sometimes we don’t. Having the understanding to let someone follow their own path is wisdom.

Thank you for this post. I’ll be back to learn more:~)

We have been given the power of discernment…and this power will always lead us right if we just quiet our minds and listen! Most times I feel things in my solar plexus…:)

  5. Hi Kathy, just wanted to say hi,and I enjoy coming to your sight and reading what others are saying about immortality.I enjoy reading others tell about how they have found it out.The more I read the Bible the more I realize the truth of it was always there.I was just to bto life is blind to see it.The road to life is narrow and few find it.Thank you,for sharing your faith with me.Your friend, Andy

    • Hi Andy…welcome back! I am so glad that you enjoy coming here. Keeping things simple, for I believe the soul responds to simplicity and beauty is my goal here.
Please come back often. You have much to share.
      Hugs,
      Kathy

    • Hi Janni…
You know Janni, this poem is so simple and yet it conveys everything that we need to know concerning sharing our wisdom with others and connecting with what they have to share with us. I really believe Truth is the epitome of simplicity.
Sort of like that last story you posted. It was so beautiful in its simplicity and instead of masking Truth in complicated words and settings…it allowed Truth to shine forth in all its brilliance!
      Hug to you Janni…Kathy

  6. Hi Kathy – What a beautiful poem. I found it hard to get my head round the idea of physical immortality when Robin first wrote about it. But I definitely want to learn more. I reckon anything is possible if you can imagine it.

    • Hi Cath…it can be hard to ‘see’ past all those untruths we been conditioned to believe all our lives. But as long as we keep an open mind, Truth will find its way to us…in the most amazing and sometimes shocking way! Remember your power of discernment Cath…your only authority on any issue is your Divine self (who conveniently lives within)…who waits quietly for your attention…;)
      Please come back!
      Kathy

    • Hi Akemi,
You are so generous offering your ebook for free to those that are drawn to it, the least I could do is let others know of its availability!
I cannot wait to read it myself!
      Blessings and gratitude….Kathy

  7. Hi, Kathy — so glad I decided to take a vacation from my vacation and visit you today! The poem is so perfect, the wisdom so delicately and lovingly put. Like you, and like so many others, I wanted to shout my discoveries from the highest rooftop! And like you and the others, quickly realized the ONLY way to share is by simply living my truth, just being the living witness. It’s easier to do when I realize the truth of something my daughter posted on her wall a long time ago: “God is everything; God is perfect; therefore Everything is Perfect.” Thanks for the poem, thanks for you!

    • Hi Jeanne…You nailed it Jeanne. Your daughter is very wise…;)
We must learn that the only way to truly teach others is by example. Or as Gandhi says: “We must be the change we wish to see in the world.”
Nothing we say will hold any weight unless we back it up with our actions. Teaching by example. Those are the true teachers…;)
      Thanks for stopping by…
